Reflection exercise psychology

REFLECTION EXERCISE #4 – (worth up to 10 points)

During many of our online Zoom sessions you will be provided with an opportunity to earn up to 10 points for completing a brief written assignment that shows evidence of thoughtful and appropriate engagement with material covered or assigned on that particular class day (connecting lecture, discussions, videos, activities, and/or textbook content). You must show evidence of participation during our scheduled Zoom sessions on the day the reflection exercise is assigned to earn full credit.

*Recall that approximately 50% of this class occurs synchronously (“live” online) during the scheduled class meetings on Zoom. These Reflection Exercises make up some of the asynchronous components of your course instruction (the remaining 50% of your instruction), so please be sure to view the whole video that has been assigned AND provide thoughtful and detailed responses to all of the assigned prompts!

Be sure to submit a response that is at least 250 words (approx. 1 typed page double-spaced)

Grading information for reflection exercises

10 pts = excellent: submitted work is clearly-presented, thorough, detailed, relevant to assigned topic, & accurate. Student actively participated during all opportunities provided during the Zoom class session.
8 pts = good: submitted work does not entirely meet the requirements for full credit; a minor omission of required content

[this score also applies to students who provide an excellent “reflection exercise” response but did not show evidence of active participation during our scheduled Zoom sessions on the day the reflection exercise was assigned]

6 pts = marginal: completed work is somewhat clear, thorough, detailed, relevant and/or accurate; a moderate omission of required content
4 pts = inadequate: completed work is not at all clear, thorough, detailed, relevant and/or accurate; a significant omission of required content

Paragraph #1 – Provide a detailed discussion of your thoughts related to the video’s information about concepts & prototypes.

Paragraph #2 – Provide a detailed discussion of your thoughts related to the video’s information about problem-solving (choose one (1) of the examples of problem-solving that were mentioned to include within this response paragraph).

Paragraph #3 – Provide a detailed discussion of your personal experiences related to the statement that “our cognition often leads us astray (misleads us) in all kinds of ways” (choose one (1) of these concepts to include within this response paragraph: confirmation bias, belief perseverance, functional fixedness, mental set.
