Take notes during the class discussion on informative speaking.

Prepare a 3-4 minute informative speech on the topic of your choice.

The speech should focus on INFORMING your audience.

The speech does NOT have to be memorized. You do not have a write out script present to read from during your speech.

Use note cards in order to deliver your speech extemporaneously. (Remember my video example.)

The speech should have a minimum of three references and one reference must be scholarly. (No Wikipedia and No blogs.) (You can use Google Scholar or any school database. Think about web sites that end in .edu, such as, etc. Also, you can click the school library link to ask a librarian to assist you with finding scholarly sources for your speech..


Practice your speech several times…and time yourself.

Speech Rubric Elements:

Extemporaneous Delivery 50%

(Eye Contact, Body Language, Confidence, Physical Expression, Vocal Projection)

Organization 20%

Informative Content 30% (Good quality research with professional content.)

(-5) Overtime (10-second window) plus a point for every minute over.

(-5) Not meeting the 4-minute mark.

(-5) Late on speech day plus one point per day for late submission
