Forensic pathologist
Each student brings to class a unique perspective and set of interests. For this first project, you have the opportunity to explore in-depth a topic related to aging, death, dying, or funeral customs and explore it in greater depth. The topic that you choose is up to you, but it must be approved by Prof. Sullivan. Sample ideas for your project include how death or dying is represented in an aspect of popular culture, death customs or rituals practiced by a culture, brain-death controversies such as the case of Terri Schiavo, what it’s like to counsel patients facing a terminal diagnosis, how to support someone in mourning, the circumstances first responders face when dealing with death on the job and/or breaking bad news to families, physician-assisted death, alternative body disposition methods, how COVID-19 has changed grief or funeral rituals … the possibilities are endless. Once you choose your topic, write a 750-1000-word paper (APA format, 7th edition Student Paper) that further explores the topic. Be sure to fully explain your topic and include in your explanation how this is impacted by social beliefs. Additionally, you will be submitting an annotated bibliography, which will help you organize your sources for your paper. You must utilize at least two scholarly sources for this project.
