Essay #1 Prewriting Activity and Transformation Plan:
1.) The first thing I want you to consider is whether effort, challenges, mistakes, or feedback lead you to fixed mindsets. Next, do the below freewriting to discover ways/events where your effort, challenges, mistakes, or feedback influenced your mindset:
Freewriting: Get out your phone/clock and plan to freewrite for 5 min straight. Try to think of specific times/events in your life when you had a fixed mindset about your ability to learn and improve. Next, write about what influenced that mindset: was it the effort you had to put in, the challenges you faced, your mistakes, or feedback you received. This is freewriting, so do not worry about grammar, spelling, etc. You can write in complete sentences or you can use bullet points. At the end of the timer, go back and underline/highlight your best ideas. Try to find specific memory to illustrate to your reader how and why you tend to fall into a fixed mindset.
2.) The next thing you need to decide is which behavior change will help you overcome your fixed mindset the most. (Recognizing and Resisting Bias, Overcoming Imposter Syndrome, Managing Stress, or Focusing on the Positive). Write your choice below:

5.) Transformation Plan: Wanting to change a behavior is only one, small part of the solution. If you want to become a better learner, you have to push yourself outside of your comfort zone and do things that are hard. I need you to choose a behavior to change for a 24 hour period. That behavior should coincide with the behavior you’ve chosen to change for this essay (Question #2). If you’ve chosen recognizing and resisting bias, you may decide to join a social media group that helps with social causes and share your story on the site. If you’ve chosen imposter syndrome, you can choose to commit to raising your hand and participating in all of your classes, going to your professor’s office hours, or going to the Learning Center’s Online tutoring. You are the only one who knows exactly what will help you the most. Make your plan below:
